When and where did you begin this sport?
He took up Para cross-country skiing in 2013 in Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan.
Why this sport?
He practised skiing in his youth, and decided to pursue the sport again after he acquired his impairment. He was also inspired by the victories of Kazakhstani cross-country skier, Vladimir Smirnov.

In 2008 he was attacked and suffered a knife wound in his back, resulting in a spinal cord injury and loss of the use of his legs. After several years of rehabilitation he regained some sensation in his legs. (, 26 Feb 2014;, 24 Feb 2014)
Other information
He returned an adverse analytical finding for the prohibited substance acetazolamide in December 2013. The finding was the result of a prescribed medication that he took under the supervision of a physician. In February 2014 he was reprimanded by the International Paralympic Committee [IPC] for failing to gain a Therapeutic Use Exemption [TUE] to use the medication. (, 27 Feb 2014)
