He sustained a spinal cord injury after falling at a playground near his home in Jundiai, Brazil. "I hit my ribs and they perforated my lung and my liver. I had also a spine injury. I was in coma and, when I woke up, I had lost my mobility. After some three or four years of intense rehabilitation I could recover some movements which allowed me to become more independent." In the lead-up to the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, he trained with the national team in Sao Carlos, Brazil, in temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius.
