He has quadriplegia after being involved in a car accident on the way to Port Campbell, VIC, Australia, on Australia Day in 2005. He was a passenger in the vehicle when the driver lost control. He suffered serious spinal cord damage, swelling on his brain and two collapsed lungs. He was in an induced coma for two weeks and required a six-hour operation to realign his spine. Other information
He began competing in wheelchair rugby in 2008, inspired by the Paralympic Games in Beijing. He went on to compete at two Paralympic Games in the sport, before taking up Para athletics. "When I was at rehabilitation I saw the [wheelchair] rugby team training at the gymnasium. I didn't know if there were any physical sports I could play, let alone sports in general, so when I saw the physical nature of the sport I was immediately drawn to it.
