Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
He was active in sports before losing his legs in 2008, and returned to a range of activities as part of his rehabilitation.
Why this sport?
"I was very active when I had my feet - indoor cricket, outdoor cricket, touch football, beach volleyball. I was doing all that stuff and this has just opened up different doors to different adaptive sports and I still do it. I can't run any more so I have to use the race chair, for volleyball or basketball I just sit down. There's a lot of hits and everything [in wheelchair sports] but that's also getting rid of aggression in using the chair."

Sporting philosophy / motto
"I've got a loving family and I've got a huge support group out there, I can't let them down. I'm just achieving these things because I'm giving it a go. I've been allowed to give it a go."

Other sports
He won medals in wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball at the US Marine Corps Trials in 2012. He has also competed in wheelchair rugby. (defence.gov.au, 15 Mar 2012; news.navy.gov.au, 07 Nov 2014)
Impairment
He was diagnosed with group A streptococcus, toxic shock syndrome, and multi organ failure in 2008. He was hospitalised in an induced coma for 32 days, followed by amputation below both knees. "I remember my wife telling me she loved me and had to take my feet off. When I woke up I looked down and had no feet. I thought, 'OK, this is going to be a life-changing experience'. From there I just built a bridge and I got over it." (alburywodonga.starcommunity.com.au, 29 Nov 2012; abc.net.au, 22 Mar 2011)
