When and where did you begin this sport?
He took up the sport at about age 14 in Cape Verde.
Why this sport?
His dream was to play football, but after he broke his toe he switched to athletics as his friends were involved in the sport. "I ended up realising that athletics is not only running. We learn techniques, schedules, responsibilities and discipline. Rules that make us men."

FOUNDATION
In 2018 he established the Gracelino Barbosa Foundation in Cape Verde, which aims to promote, support and develop sporting, social and cultural activities. "Our focus is the inclusion of people with impairments and children, as well as teaching children and old people. For children we also created a sports section including a teaching programme before training. The goal is to overcome difficulties, because I have been overcoming difficulties all my life."
