She was introduced to the sport during her rehabilitation at the Hoorn Athletics Association in the Netherlands.

She saw other athletes with amputations doing athletics and decided it was something she wanted to try.

Impairment
At age 11 she sprained her right ankle and the injury developed into post traumatic dystrophy. Her ankle was so painful that she couldn't bear for anything to touch it, not even a sock.
