When and where did you begin this sport?
She began powerlifting in July 2008.
Why this sport?
She was active in shot put, discus, and javelin but during weight training she discovered she liked Para powerlifting more. "Winter in the Netherlands is very cold and you have to train outside. I didn't like it so I looked for a sport where I could train inside."

Milestones
She became the first female Para powerlifter representing the Netherlands to compete at the Paralympic Games when she participated in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. FROM SURINAME TO THE NETHERLANDS
Born in Suriname, she moved to the Netherlands as a teenager. "I was born in Suriname and came to the Netherlands when I was 15. A year before I emigrated to the Netherlands, I participated in the Paralympics in Athens for Suriname. I definitely wanted to continue with that."
