Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
She first swam at age five, and began swimming competitively at school in 2012.
Why this sport?
She took up swimming with her family because her parents did not know how to swim, and wanted her to be safe in and around water.
General Interest
Superstitions / Rituals / Beliefs
She always says a prayer before she dives into the pool. "It makes me feel better when I say a little prayer." (, 16 Sep 2017)
Awards and honours
She was named the Best Female Athlete at the 2016 Malaysian Para Games in Sarawak. (, 18 Sep 2017)
Outside of sport she hopes to become a lawyer. (, 18 Sep 2017)
She was born without a left arm. "Personally, I don't find swimming with one arm to be much of a challenge because I have never known what it feels like to swim with two arms. The challenge is keeping up with my teammates. They all have two arms and legs so it is probably more difficult for me, but not to the extent where it's impossible." (, 19 Aug 2017;, 21 Aug 2016)
Other information
In January 2018 she began an exchange study programme at Ruthin School in Wales. She also practises swimming at the school. "The training centre is full of able-bodied swimmers and I train with them. They have different training programmes. But the coach has been directing me very well and they all have been very supportive." (, 17 Apr 2018;, 29 Mar 2018;, 19 Aug 2017)
