Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
She became the first member of Plivacki Klub SPID, a Para swimming club in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Why this sport?
"I started swimming primarily because of my health condition. Since I have been wearing a prosthesis for more than 20 years, it affects my spine and muscles. Later I began to take the sport more seriously."
General Interest
Most influential person in career
Her parents. (zosradio.ba, 08 Mar 2020)
Hero / Idol
US talk show host Oprah Winfrey. (landminefree2025.org, 08 Mar 2020)
Sporting philosophy / motto
"What inspires me is my influence on others, especially children who have impairments and who have trouble accepting themselves. When girls dare to wear a prosthesis at the pool or speak publicly about their difficulties [after] watching me doing it, it gives me the strength to be a better version of myself." (landminefree2025.org, 08 Mar 2020)
Impairment
In 1998 at age eight, she stepped on an anti-personnel landmine when she was having a picnic with her family in a field near Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a result, her leg had to be partially amputated. (state.gov, 11 Oct 2019; landminefree2025.org, 08 Mar 2020)
Other information
LANDMINE CAMPAIGN
She has campaigned for global awareness and removal of landmines through a project called Landmine Free 2025. "I was born and raised in Sarajevo [Bosnia and Herzegovina], and to me this project means a lot. Sarajevo is a city with many different cultures and nationalities. When the project is fully completed, and the goal of Sarajevo free of mines finally becomes a reality, we will be able to live and move without the fear of being injured by mines, live together and leave the past behind us. We will be able to enjoy our city and our beautiful country. I am a mine survivor and my disability is due to mines. I would be the happiest person if my country one day becomes free of mines." (landminefree2025.org, 08 Mar 2020; marshall-legacy.org, 17 Apr 2020)

FURTHER EDUCATION
She has also studied for a master's degree in communication, public relations and media studies at the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. (marshall-legacy.org, 17 Apr 2020; zosradio.ba, 08 Mar 2020; LinkedIn profile, 01 Sep 2018)
