He took up the sport seriously in 2002 in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Why this sport?
He was taught how to swim at age seven by his older brother. He later was inspired to get involved in the sport seriously by Malaysian swimmer Daniel Bego.

RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He began considering retirement in 2017, but decided to commit to competing at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo after his wife died in a car accident in November 2018. "I decided to come back for my son. He's the main reason. My son is showing a lot of interest and potential in swimming. I want to spend more time bonding with him after I retire and then I'll teach him everything I know about swimming." OTHER ACTIVITIES
When he is not training he spends time at his jackfruit farm in his hometown of Limbang in Malaysia. The farm is product of a project organised by the Limbang government.
