Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
He learnt to swim at an early age and began competing in the sport at age nine in East London, South Africa.
Why this sport?
He began competing in the sport after his coach suggested he enter a competition, which he went on to win. "I've been able to swim since I was age two or three, and that's because I grew up in South Africa. Basically everybody had a pool because it was a warm climate, and if you didn't know how to swim you were either unsafe in the water or completely left out because everybody would want to go for a swim. I started swimming competitively because my swimming teacher at the time suggested that I enter the county trials. It ended up being a really good environment."
Training Regime
He trains up to seven sessions in the pool and two sessions in the gym per week.

He was born with cerebral palsy. "My cerebral palsy affects me when I'm training because I have a massive power difference between my left and right side. I find that my right arm and leg are significantly weaker than my left side. That makes gym exercises interesting. In the pool I generally don't push off at all using my right leg. My left leg is certainly dominant." (Charlotte Fish YouTube channel, 14 Aug 2019; Athlete, 14 Aug 2018)
