Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
He loved being in the water as a child but did not start regular swimming training until November 2009.
Why this sport?
He says he started swimming because it is good for physical fitness. "Swimming is very beneficial because it strengthens immunity, builds muscles tone, and is good for your back. These are some reasons why I started swimming, but the main reason is because I love it. When the coach asked me to join [Team Hope] I thought it would just be a silly thing for fun. But after a while I saw it was serious work and we began to attend competitions."

Other information

TECHNOLOGY LOVER
On his blog he writes that one of the positives of being visually impaired was a national programme that provided affordable access to computers. He started to learn a programming language that he says is "accessible to the visually impaired and has very easy syntax". He says discovering technology has filled him with joy, especially playing audio games such as Pontes' Virtual Tennis and interacting with other visually impaired audio gamers in online forums. He also loves to read and write, particularly about science fiction and fantasy, and posts short stories on his blog. (velecico.blogspot.com, 07 Sep 2010)
