He has been involved in adaptive sports since age six but did not start powerlifting until age 18 in Shreveport in 2008.
Why this sport?
"I used to [wheelchair] race when I was younger, so I was in good shape, but I tore both my rotator cuffs, and I have always wanted to get back into shape. This was a way to get there, and then I grew to like it."

OVERCOMING PREJUDICE
At the Families Helping Families Annual Education Conference in 2009 he spoke about "administrators and teachers who had little faith in his success" and of those who encouraged him to "become the person he is today". He said that he was told repeatedly that he would never graduate. He did graduate and went on to study criminal justice at LSUA in the hopes of pursuing a career in forensic science.
