Other information
In October 2019 he auctioned the gold medal he won in the 49kg category at the 2016 World Cup event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to help his neighbour's granddaughter who was suffering from liver cancer. The medal was eventually sold for 125 million Vietnamese dong. "The medal is just a symbol, I was afraid no one will buy it so I didn't put a starting price. He runs an electronics repair business from his home in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and co-owns a corn farm in Cu Chi district. He has also worked in real estate. (, 11 Aug 2020;, 11 Aug 2020;, 22 Dec 2016)

On 25 July 2010 he was banned from international competitions for two years after giving a positive sample for the banned substance prednisone during the 2010 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (, 25 Oct 2010)
