Impairment
In 2001 she suffered from a bacterial infection resulting in blood poisoning during a trip to Jamaica. She was flown to Miami, FL, United States of America, and had to have both her legs and four fingers on each hand amputated. After 10 weeks in hospital in Miami, she spent a further nine weeks in hospital in Groningen, Netherlands. (ellenbarendregt.wordpress.com, 15 Feb 2012)
