SPINAL INJURY
She uses a wheelchair after sustaining a serious spinal injury at age 18 when she was hit by a car. Ashe was a black belt in taekwondo before the incident, and took up archery in 2007. "Archery made me strong - and taught me the meaning of strength. When I was 18 I lost the ability to walk in a car accident. I was close to losing my life. But I had a chance to live." NATIONAL FIRSTS
She is the first athlete from the Islamic Republic of Iran to have competed at both the Paralympic Games and the Olympic Games. She competed in archery at the Paralympic Games in 2012 and 2016, and at the Olympic Games in 2016. She was also the first archer from the Islamic Republic of Iran to win gold at the Paralympic Games, claiming gold in women's individual recurve at the 2012 Games in London.
