Why this sport?
She was first introduced to shooting at the Nautical Training Corps, a uniformed youth organisation in England. "I started shooting through the Nautical Training Corps, as I was a member of TS Ajax in Portsmouth and was part of the marksmanship team. Impairment
She injured her left leg in a rock climbing accident in 1997, which left her unable to walk. She made the decision to have the limb amputated in January 2010. "I was teaching rock climbing at the time. I fell, I slipped off. I had the accident and was told to find a new career which was a blow because I used to love working with children and teaching people a sport which they wouldn't have thought about doing before. I had 16 operations on my leg but managed to talk them [doctors] into actually taking it off due to pain reasons. I was in chronic pain and it was just too much." Other information
TARGET TOKYO CHALLENGE
In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic she launched the 'Target Tokyo Challenge', through which British Shooting athletes, coaches and staff raised money for National Health Service [NHS] staff and volunteers. The challenge involved collectively covering 8200 miles. "I know that I personally have been helped by the caring profession so much when I had my accident and when I had my son and I wanted to give back. We have covered the distance in so many ways, pushing, cycling, running, canoeing, swimming, walking and even handbiking." (eley.co.uk, 24 Jul 2020; British Shooting Instagram profile, 15 Jun 2020)

MOTIVATION
She says her son Rudi is her main motivation to compete in sport. "My motivation is my son. [Until 2010] he'd never seen me walking or anything. So in 2010 when I'd had my leg off, I'd literally just come round from being in theatre and he said, 'When can we play football mum?' That's still a pretty hard thing to do. I might kick a ball about with him but that's about it." (That's TV Solent YouTube channel, 22 Jun 2016)

FURTHER STUDIES
She has also studied gestalt therapy at the University of Winchester in England and psychology at Portsmouth Open University in England. (LinkedIn profile, 2014; Athlete, 28 Aug 2021)
