He was born in Barcelona, Spain, but chose to represent Argentina at international level due to his family originating from there. "I was born in Barcelona, but after a week I was in Mendoza [Argentina]. Then, when I was five, after my father got a job in a hospital we returned to Spain and stayed there. That is why I am Catalan and Argentinian. I spent many years outside [Argentina] but I always remember the 1978 [football] World Cup, Mendoza, family and friends. From childhood I always felt Argentinian and I love to represent the great country of my family." (polideportivonews.com.ar, 06 Mar 2014; mundodeportivo.com, 12 Mar 2018)
