He began snowboarding at university in 2011.

He was inspired to take up snowboarding after reading about a competitor who had an above-the-knee amputation.

Awards and honours
Prior to the 2012 Olympic Games in London he carried the Olympic torch through Forfar, Scotland. He also carried the Commonwealth baton in Aberfolyle, Scotland, in the build-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. (adventureandy.co.uk, 06 Jan 2019)

Impairment
His right leg was amputated below the knee in a road accident after being hit by a car on his bicycle in 2011. The accident, which happened in Fort William, Scotland, also resulted in a brain injury that left him with attention, concentration and memory problems.
